Roman Blinds Measuring Guide

How to Measure for Roman Blinds

Measuring for your made-to-measure Roman blind is easier than you might think. Just follow the steps below and you’ll have everything you need to place your order with confidence.

Step 1: Decide Where the Blind Will Sit

First, choose between the two common fitting options:

Inside the recess (recess fit):

• The blind fits neatly within your window opening.

• Great for a streamlined look or where there’s limited wall space.

Outside the recess (exact fit):

• The blind sits outside the window frame, covering more of the wall.

• Helps block out more light and gives the illusion of a bigger window.

Step 2: Measuring for Inside Recess

1. Measure the width of the window in three places: top, middle, and bottom.

• Use the smallest measurement to ensure the blind fits.

2. Measure the drop/length from the top of the recess to the sill.

Tip: Use a metal tape measure and write everything down in centimetres (cm).

Step 3: Measuring for Outside Recess

1. Decide how far you’d like the blind to extend beyond the window.

• We recommend at least 5cm (2”) overlap on each side.

2. Measure the total width you’d like the blind to cover.

3. Measure the drop from where you want the top of the blind to start, down to where you’d like it to finish.

Tip: This is a great option for windows with shallow recesses or if you want better light control.
